February 9th, 2009 krukiluan Posted in Article | No Comments »
When I was asked to write this piece about Bawang and the mangrove forest, I was asked to give my opinion as a foreigner and visitor. There are many facets to my feelings about Bawang because it is such a beautiful and enchanting place that has the potential to spin you around at the very next turn. I mean you never know what lies on the road (or water) ahead.
I will share with you my first visit to Bawang. I travelled for 2 hours from the Island of Kiluan (another gorgeous Island) across the bay of Selat Legundi on the jukung of my close friend, marine fisherman and chief of marine security, Bang Dir. We were travelling across the bay to meet our friend the director of conservation organisation Cikal, Riko Stefanus.

Before we understand how dolphins have baby, we should get to know about dolphins themselves. Dolphins are mammals. Just like other mammals, dolphins also get pregnant and give birth to a baby, milk feed and nurture the baby until he is grown up.
Dolphins breathe through lungs, and in every few minutes they dive up to water surface for breathing. Dolphin has a tiny hole behind its head, which is called “blowhole”. Having taken a breath, the hole is closed to prevent water out of the lungs.
After all, how dolphins have baby, which are as mammal, live under water that need air above the sea to breathe?

December 1st, 2008 krukiluan Posted in News | No Comments »
Without the hard work of Riko Stafanus, tourists might not be able to enjoy the breathtaking sight of the dolphin dance at Kiluan Bay.
Kiluan Bay, which is located in Tanggamus regency of Lampung province, is not as popular as Lampung Bay in Bandarlampung, Tomini Bay in Central Sulawesi or Lovina Bay in Bali.
But thanks to the efforts of Riko, 34, from the Cikal Ecotourism Foundation, who has been working to save Kiluan Bay’s turtle and dolphin habitat, the virgin tourist site is beginning to see an increase in the number of local and foreign visitors.
Some tourists say the Kiluan Bay dolphin dance is more exotic than the popular one at Lovina Beach, where only one species of dolphin is found.
